Text Compare (Diff Checker)

Paste two versions of a text to see exactly which lines were added, removed or left unchanged.

How to use the Text Compare

  1. Paste the original text in the left box and the changed text in the right box.
  2. Added lines are shown in green with a plus sign; removed lines in red with a minus sign.
  3. Turn on "ignore case" or "ignore extra whitespace" to hide unimportant differences.

How the comparison works

The tool compares the two texts line by line. It finds the longest set of lines that both versions share, in the same order (the longest common subsequence), and marks everything else as added or removed. This is the same idea used by the diff tools in version control systems such as Git.

A line that has been edited appears as one removed line followed by one added line.

Typical uses

  • Checking what changed between two drafts of an article or contract.
  • Comparing configuration files or code snippets.
  • Verifying that a copied text is identical to the original.

Your text is processed in your browser. Nothing you type or paste is uploaded or stored.

What do the colours mean?

Green lines with a plus sign exist only in the changed text. Red lines with a minus sign exist only in the original.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser.
