Sort Lines Alphabetically

Sort a list alphabetically, numerically or by length, reverse it or shuffle it at random.

How to use the Sort Lines

  1. Paste your list with one item per line.
  2. Choose the sort order: A to Z, Z to A, numeric, by length, reversed or random.
  3. Copy or download the sorted list.

Sorting options

  • A to Z / Z to A: alphabetical order. With “ignore case” on, numbers inside text sort naturally, so “item 2” comes before “item 10”.
  • Numeric: sorts by the first number found on each line. Lines without a number go last.
  • Length: shortest or longest lines first.
  • Reverse: flips the current order without sorting.
  • Random shuffle: puts the lines in a random order, useful for draws and randomized lists.

You can also remove empty lines and duplicate lines in the same step.

Your text is processed in your browser. Nothing you type or paste is uploaded or stored.

Frequently asked questions

How do I sort a list alphabetically?

Paste the list with one item per line and choose "A to Z". The sorted list appears immediately.

How do I sort numbers correctly?

Choose a numeric order. Alphabetical sorting would place 10 before 2; numeric sorting compares the values.

Can I randomize a list?

Yes. Choose "Random shuffle" and press the button again for a new order.
