How area conversion works
Area units are length units squared, so the conversion factor is squared too. One foot is 0.3048 m, which makes one square foot 0.3048 × 0.3048 = 0.092903 m². This is why 1 m² is about 10.76 ft², not 3.28 ft².
Land measurement
A hectare is 10,000 m² (a 100 m × 100 m square) and equals about 2.471 acres. An acre is 43,560 square feet, or 4,046.86 m². A square mile contains 640 acres.
In Pakistan and parts of India land is measured in marla and kanal. This converter uses the standard marla of 272.25 square feet (25.29 m²), with 20 marla to a kanal. Some housing schemes use a 225 square foot marla, so confirm which one applies to your plot.
